Standardized Tests and Test Preparation
Most
American colleges and universities require international students to
take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). During each
term, EPI offers the Institutional TOEFL for an additional fee. Other
tests such as the International TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, and SAT are
administered throughout the year at USC. A TOEFL preparation class is
offered for students who feel they need additional preparation. EPI also
offers test preparation in GRE. Students are charged a nominal fee for
this extra instruction.
The TOEFL® Test - Test of English as a Foreign
LanguageTM
Most foreign students interested in studying at an American college
or university are required to take the TOEFL. The regular EPI curriculum
includes TOEFL preparation in all classes. However, EPI offers a TOEFL
class for a small fee every term for those students who feel they need
additional assistance. More information about this test is located at the
TOEFL site.
EPI students who
successfully complete EPI's top level(6) are not required to take the
TOEFL for admission to undergraduate degree programs at the University
of South Carolina.
GRE® - Graduate Record Examinations®
SAT® Program
GMAT® - The Graduate Management Admission Test®
Other entrance examinations are required for admission to U.S.
Universities. The SAT is a test that is required at some American
colleges and universities for undergraduate students. The SAT is not
required for international students applying to the University of South
Carolina. The GRE is an entrance examination that is required at most
American universities for graduate students seeking admission to
graduate degree programs. The GMAT is an entrance examination required
at most American universities for students seeking admission to graduate
degree programs in business. For more information about these tests
please look at the official web sites for
SAT, GRE, and
GMAT.
EPI offers GRE tutorials which provide specialized, individualized
instruction to prepare international students for these tests. (For the
GRE tutorial to be offered, six students must enroll in the course.)
